A robust lesson plan is the foundation of teaching excellence.  Here are a few examples of lesson plans that Lindsey has either used with her high school students or created in practicum settings.

Choir Class

SAMPLE MIXED CHORUS LESSON

OBJECTIVES

  1. (Behavioral) The choir will perform with accurate intonation and supported singing from the warm up throughout the rehearsal.

  2. (Cognitive) The students will conceptualize and actuate the formal elements of “Yo Le Canto.”

TUNING - FRESHMAN CHORUS

OBJECTIVES

  1. (Behavioral) Students will manipulate the tuning of a triad to ensure that each pitch is balanced in the scale.

  2. (Cognitive) Students will connect their knowledge of counting to the pitches of their assigned sightreading example.

  3. (Experiential) Students will experience a complete performance of “Carol of the Bells.”

SAMPLE TREBLE CHORUS LESSON

OBJECTIVES

  1. (Cognitive) Students will understand how to transfer Do-based minor solfege to sightreading new musical excerpts.

  2. (Behavioral) Students will perform previously-known and newly-learned musical excerpts a cappella.

Piano Lesson

SAMPLE TREBLE CHORUS LESSON

OBJECTIVES

  1. (Experiential) Students will have the experience of running their repertoire in full as it will be in tonight’s evening rehearsal.

  2. (Behavioral) Students will perform each piece with relative fluency through difficult transitions with a success rate of 80%.

  3. (Cognitive) Students will understand how to use their own instruments to enact the distinct character of each piece.

GLOBAL WINTER HOLIDAY UNIT PLAN

OBJECTIVE

Students will become familiar with various holidays around the world and realize various ways that people celebrate them through music.  They will specifically learn about the Sankta Lucia holiday.

EXULTATE JUSTI UNIT PLAN

OBJECTIVES​

  1. (Cognitive) Students will distinguish between homophony and polyphony in the context of the piece.

  2. (Constructivist)  Students will show awareness of the importance in their own vocal lines relative to their fellow choir members.
